After seven successful years of The S.H.E.L school holiday multi sport camp, General (world) Sports in partnership with NHS City and Hackney Teaching Primary Care Trust have developed a new programme, the ‘S.H.E.L School Roadshow.’
The S.H.E.L programme, funded and guided by NHS City and Hackney tPCT and supported by the Hackney Healthy Schools Programme, has been designed to encourage an active, positive and healthy lifestyle amongst years 5 and 6 pupils. The programme will use quality sports coaching and instruction while using the physical activity as a vehicle to target and address issues such as:
Current estimates show that 24% of year 6 pupils in Hackney and City of London schools are obese. In addition to obesity levels, Hackney also suffers from a high number of its pupils being drawn away from education and into gangs, crime and other negative activities that in turn can lead to unproductive lifestyles.
The S.H.E.L School roadshow is designed to target these issues by using physical activity as the vehicle to deliver our messages.
Our S.H.E.L team will come to your school with experienced coaches and players of your chosen activity and will deliver the programme.
By using local positive role models such as professional players and coaches we feel it offers the children the opportunity to receive a great active learning experience from athletes emerging from similar environments that have succeeded both in their chosen sport as well as education and life. All GWS coaches and staff have a valid CRB check certificate.

The session will end with the entire group being re-assembled in the school hall for a summary on the sessions and to play one last team game.
4. For The Parents: The students will also be provided with a final information fact sheet that reinforces the main messages of each station to keep as a reminder and to generate discussion at home about the messages for Life.
5) Follow Up: We will provide the teachers and students with feedback following the evaluation in order for us to address further issues and incorporate the interests of the community we work in, as well as continue to develop our programme.
